What is the IHWO Certificate in Business English Teaching Level 1 course?
This is a course especially designed for teachers who are newly qualified or who have little experience of teaching in companies.
The course has three roughly equally weighted strands:
1 Basic Business Awareness |
2 Professional Skills |
3 Methodology and Materials |
Course introduction, business speaking skills, business writing skills, corporate structure, marketing, sales, accountancy, banking, markets, human resources management, product development and production, continuing your business education |
Strand introduction, needs analysis, syllabus design, principles of lesson planning, “the client approach”, feedback and evaluation |
Introduction to learner-centred approaches, approaches to classroom practice, the lexical approach, practising oral skills, writing skills, using authentic materials, adapting published materials, adapting materials from video and radio, the numerical- graphical approach, business games, creating your own material |
Course Aims
To provide teachers with the necessary skills and knowledge to start teaching business English, and to prepare participants to take the LCCI FTBE exam.
What´s in it for you?
The course will provide you with the confidence to go and experiment for yourself in the business classroom. It will also give you a good awareness of business terminology, along with the appropriate means of course and lesson delivery.
How many hours?
It is a 50 hour course consisting of 30 hours of input and 20 hours of self-study.

There is no assessed teaching in this course. Assessment consists of:
In order to complete these tasks you should be a practising teacher and have a timetable which includes some in-company classes.
Where is it run and when is the next course?
We will be running two part-time courses this academic year: a) from October 19, 2007 to February 8, 2008 and b) from February 22 to June 13th. The courses run from 10:30 – 12:45 on Friday mornings for 15 weeks in our Colón centre.
How much does it cost?
The cost of this 30 hour course is €435 Euros
