TEACHER TRAINING SUPPORT
What is a typical day on the part-time course?
Monday and Wednesday mornings
09.30 - 12.00 Input
These mornings are devoted mainly to teaching practice. The trainees teach a group of practice students - students who know that the teachers are in training. The tutor is always in the classroom to grade the lesson, and help out if teachers get into difficulty.
Trainees normally teach one class per week.
12.00-12.30 Coffee Break
International House Madrid has its own bar where trainees can have breakfast or lunch. Internet connection is free and some trainees use this time to check their email and keep up-to-date with friends and family back home.
12.30 - 14.00 Feedback and Planning
The remainder of the morning is dedicated to feedback on previous teaching practice and planning the next lessons. The session starts with a group discussion on the classes that were taught followed by grading from the tutor.
Friday Mornings
09.30-11.30
This is the day that the tutors provide the input training on all aspects of teaching English as a foreign language. There are normally two sessions and the input is very practical-based. The tutors deliver their input in the same way that the trainees teach the students in their observed classes.
Typical input session are:
• Classroom Management
• Teaching Vocabulary
• Grammar Analysis
• Language Practice Activities
11.30-12.00 Coffee Break
12.00 - 14.00 Feedback and Planning
Like the other days, the remaining time is dedicated to feedback on classes and planning out the next week's teaching practice schedule.
